Fibroids

Fibroids, also called uterine fibroids, or Leiomyomata, refers to a condition where women have non-cancerous tumors or lumps in the uterus. Fibroids may grow as a single tumor, or in groups. Symptoms include heavy periods, pelvic pain, and reproductive problems.

Fibroids have no known cause (suspects include hormonal and genetic factors), and have limited treatment options. In some cases, Fibroids can prevent a woman from being able to become pregnant through natural means.

Uterine fibroids are not cancerous. Fibroids are not associated with cancer and they rarely develop into cancer (less than 0.1% of cases). Having fibroids does not increase a woman's risk for uterine cancer.
