Being Available 24/7

As a real estate investor, you will need to be readily available to communicate with your clients. This requires that you have a phone. I do not suggest relying on a home phone, especially if you have children. One of your children answering the phone and then calling out to you, “Mommy” or “Daddy” will not help your professional image. I recommend setting up a separate business phone, preferably a cell phone. That way, you can keep in touch with your clients when on long-distance trips out of town.

If you are especially busy with your day-job, it is ok to perhaps hire somebody or have a grown family member answer your phone. They can record vital contact information so that you can phone the caller at a later time. I recommend utilizing an answering service. You can write up a script for them to use so that you obtain the exact information that you need. Just because you are having your calls answered does not mean you can stall on calling your clients back. You need to call back within two hours.

Once your business really gets going, you may even want to consider hiring a secretary. This is meant for the top players only though! Unless you are dedicating all your professional time to real estate investing, do not forego the money for an assistant.

In addition to a phone, I also recommend setting up your own website and obtaining an email address. What with the boom of technology nowadays, you need to keep up with the pace of things. Nowadays, it is estimated that over 60% of business communication is done entirely from a computer!

Anybody can sell real estate, but the key lies is forming and maintaining strong relationships with buyers, sellers, and other investors. A lot of this depends on how available you keep yourself to your clients. If people cannot get hold of you, they will eventually give up and just go to somebody else. That is the last thing you want!
